The Context
Develop for Good recruits college students and recent graduates to work on design and development projects for nonprofits doing social good. Selected to join a team of 6 designers, I’m working with the Roc Solid Foundation to design an app to support parents with kids with cancer. Roc Solid is a nonprofit building hope for kids with cancer through the power of play launched in 2009 by pediatric cancer survivor Eric Newman.
The Challenge
How might we design an app to emotionally support parents along the full recovery journey for their child with cancer?

Currently, Roc Solid provides ready bags and backyard play-sets to an audience of 4,000 families. With their new initiative, termed the “1095 project” (to represent the average number of days kids spend fighting cancer before recovering), they hope to expand access to support parents across the full recovery journey, by providing a community of families, vetted medical resources, tools, and more, reaching a potential audience of 16,000 families with kids diagnosed with cancer each year.
